A year ago today I was lying in bed at my sisters house trying to read and trying to figure out when we'd get this party started. It was 7 am and I was supposed to walk down the aisle for another 10 hours. Reading wasn't working for me, I was thinking about way too much. I got up to shower and prep at like 8 in the morning. Only 9 hours left I was doing great!
The rest of the day is a blur, at some point there was breakfast, a light lunch, finishing touches on my veil and flower arrangements, my brother-in-law shoving wine down my throat to make me chill the f* out and then we got to an hour before the wedding. So an hour before the wedding, I'm in a cool summer dress, with big blow dried Tyler hair, no make up and flip flops, sitting at my sister's kitchen table. Bruce sister is working on my hair and I realize that we probably should started that sooner. We're gonna be late for my wedding! Greg says "here Tyler, have more wine" and doesn't give me time to object. So I'm drinking wine, Haley still isn't ready either and things are moving at snails speed. All of the sudden like 10 till 5 and we really need to be out the door, the wedding should be starting in 10 minutes.
I was internally freaking out and trying to stay calm about it, luckily Haley was 3 months pregnant and could handle the Bridezilla-ness for me- that girl was in control! Then like it was the novel idea ever- I realized they can't start with out me, they're just gonna have to wait. As long as Bruce and I end up married that's all that matters, right? Call the Groom and tell him we're gonna be late. We packed up the car and got there a little after 5 and I thought that was fine. Once we got to my mom's house I ran into her room, the designated changing room, and finished getting ready. The photographer was there, my family was there, everyone was where they were supposed to be, they were just waiting on me. Which is fine, it was my wedding so why shouldn't they have to wait. The goal is to get married, not to stress out about it before it even happens.
A few minutes after 5:30 we were ready to start. All the guests were ushered out of the house, my maids were ready, my parents were ready and it was time to begin. I walked down the aisle to a beautiful acoustic guitar version of "Edelweiss", escorted by my handsome and beaming father and met Bruce at the beautiful gazebo-arch-thing my mom and Deirdre had decorated. The 5 minute service is a blur, we got the "I do"s in there so that's good and then we walked back down the path while our friends and family pelted us with dry hydrangea petals. Bruce and I took pictures and sent everyone off to the restaurant. Then we realized we left the marriage license at Haley's house.
After a brief detour we made it to Maggianos to meet everyone and had our lovely reception. The food was great, my apron was a total hit, the cake that I had one bite of was great and the toasts were tearjerkers. After Maggianos those that could joined us at Fiascos for the after party. The bar where we first met and first did karaoke together.
We partied at Fiascos into the night and sang and drank and drank and sang. It was perfect and I'm so happy so many of my friends came out to support us that night. It was untraditional, my dress was short, we were late, we had our first dance in a bar, someone tried to give my husband a very interesting wedding gift and my dad made an international friend.
A year later I totally believe what everyone says about the first year being the hardest. While it certainly wasn't all hard, there were a million and one emotional experiences this year. But after all of them I wake up every morning and still love my husband very very much. He makes me laugh, cry and smile as much as he did last year. But after the year we've had, I expect to wake up tomorrow for day one of year two and have everything be perfect! We totally deserve that :)

Sob Inducing Matron of Honor Toast
My amazing best friend and sister sobbed through the following toast on Saturday:
Tyler is my sister and my best friend. I love her dearly and can't imagine my life without her. That being said as many of you may know she's a little crazy and I believe because I'm a person who has lover her and lived with her her whole life I'm entitled to say that it takes a special kind of person to do that. I believe that Bruce is that special kind of person. I've witnessed it. I can't remember a time when Tyler has ever been so happy and content, almost calm. SO Bruce welcome to our family I think you make an excellent addition. And Tyler good job you picked a good one. Lets all raise our glasses in congratulations, love and to new beginnings.
There were several toast but this is my favorite because it's from my sister.
My father's toast involved slight singing, lots of joking and a brief recap of our moments before he walked me down the aisle. Haley gave me a copy of her speech, but I'm pretty positive daddy's was off the cuff.

The 29 Reasons I'm Marrying Bruce- all in one place
Over the last month I've been posting daily updates on Bruce's page about why I'm marrying them. While some of them changed over the month and evolved a little bit to be more or less mushy at the time, here are what they started out as.
29. Because you check under the bed for monsters when I’m scared
28. Because you’re a nerd
27. Because you clean better than me
26. Because you threw away the cockroach I killed with hairspray and then left under a jar in the living room
25. Because you hate reading me bedtime stories
24. Because you kiss me and tell me you love me at night when you come home from karaoke
23. Because you have freckles
22. Because you came back from Canada
21. Because you love Italian food
20. Because you saw the advanced screening of Twilight New Moon with me, Jess and my SAC students Because you love me when I’m crazy
19.Because you love me when I’m crazy
18. Because you sing in the shower
17. Because you let me drive
16. Because you let my clothes take over the man cave
15. Because you love Sookie
14. Because you look so good in a suit
13. Because you like my cooking
12. Because you’re ticklish
11. Because you try so hard at everything you do
10. Because you love Harry Potter
9. Because you accepted my ultimatum
8. Because you sing karaoke
7. Because you love my family
6. Because you support me no matter what
5. Because you care when I’m upset
4. Because you make me laugh
3. Because when you sing I go weak in the knees
2. Because you love me
1. Because I love you
Some of them changed when I typed them into Facebook- like #9 because "The 9ths reason I'm marrying you is because you believed me when I said you have to propose by Christmas"
Tomorrow is the big day- after a few changes we're all set to go!

Only 3 More Days
Yes I know I've been a blog slacker lately and after my last post was NSFW I'm sure it's time for some new content.
Things that have happened in the last three weeks:
-Got my comps results- I passed!
-We got our marriage license- not as exciting as I'd hoped
-Finished my internship- sad to say goodbye
-Bruce got a job! He's a teller at Wells Fargo (couldn't be more excited about this if I tried)
-I bought a house! - just as exciting as I'd hoped (Thanks mom, dad, mimi and Bridget!)
-I bought a fridge- Thanks Mimi!
-Only karaoked maybe 4 times- record low for me
So lots of fun stuff going on. As far as the wedding goes there have been a lot of last minute small purchases that totally add up big time:
-Wedding Apron (to wear at dinner so I don't get Italian food on my beautiful dress- stolen from Hail)
-Thank you notes (totally ran out, that's why my Bachelorettes haven't gotten their thank yous yet- sorry I fail)
-Grooms Gift (I totally think the House should have counted as a grooms gift cause I did pitch in an entire grand myself)
-Cookie favor bags
-Serving utensils for after-party cake
-Perfect pink nail polish and nail strengthener (I always break a nail when something important is coming up)
-Lotion with self-tanner in it (which I used for maybe 3 days till it turned my wrist orange)
-Dinner of the officiant's family
-After-party cake (thank god we went with just a plain sheet cake for the after-party)
Saying money is a little tight right now would be a gross understatement. Buying a house is expensive and getting married is super expensive, even when doing a small family one like ours. Luckily in three days Bruce and I will be married and starting our new life together. I'm hoping once we're married things will calm down and level out. I'm still not nervous, a good friend told me she didn't get nervous at her wedding till she put on her dress- here's hoping.
Things that still need to happen before the wedding:
-Get second facial on Thursday- Tyler
-Pick up flowers on Friday- Haley
-Decorate Menger on Friday- Mom and Deirdre
-Pick up cookie favors on Friday- Tyler
-Pack for night away from Bruce on Friday- Tyler
-Remember to shave legs on Saturday- Tyler
-Get a Mani/Pedi on Saturday- Haley and Tyler
-Get hair done Saturday- Tyler and Lauren
-Pick up after-party cake and deliver to bar on Saturday- Bruce
-Show up on time on Saturday- Bruce
-Say I do- Bruce and Tyler
-Family dinner at Maggianos on Saturday- Family :)
-After-party at Fiascos on Saturday- EVERYONE!

What happened at my bachelorette party shouldn't just stay at my bachelorette party
Last night was my bachelorette party! It was so much fun, Haley and Jenn did an awesome job. Jess had a family emergency and was unable to make it, but Hail and Jenn pulled it off. The day started at 1PM with facials at Facelogic! Getting pampered and prepped for the day was so nice. After facials we headed to Jenn's house to get ready. At Jenn's we had time to kill so we watched 27 Dresses before getting ready for dinner. We had dinner at Kona grill with quite possibly the slowest waiter in the history of the world. And then we headed back to Jenn's for the real party...
Haley, Jenn, Stephanie, Carla, Casey and I were the partiers. At Jenn's house you walk into her living room which had been transformed into a underwear strewn hen house. Shirtless firman on the back of the door, ring around the willie in the corner and bachelorette party banners on the wall. In the kitchen penis cookies are available with snacks. In the backyard the Penis Pinata is waiting to be wacked to spill it's goodies. Drinks were distributed and we opened the presents and then started the games-
The Penis Pinata was up first, using a hot pink bra as a blindfold all the bachelorettes got their turn. Jenn and Haley were the big winners and once split open the Penis dumped out condoms, flavored lubes, chocolate body paint, glow in the dark body paint, cock rings, love dice and left over Valentine's Day dirty conversation hearts. We all grabbed our loot and returned to the house. We made piles of our stuff and throughout the other games whoever won got to steal toys from other piles.
Game two- What's the white stuff? Oh yes they went there. Like the baby shower game guess what's in the diaper the bachelorettes had to identify 13 different white substances by taste and texture. Things like icing, horseradish, sour cream, coconut milk and crisco were a few of the head scratchers. After the game Haley read a list of things said during the white stuff game that may also be heard on the wedding night (and of course some things we hope we never hear on the wedding night)
-I'm so scared
- You're so good I'm mesmerized
- I like #1- I'm having a hard time with this one
- They need to get checked out
- I do
- This is weird
- I'm stumped
- What is that?
- This one's special
- That's creative
- I'm confused now
- If thats that then whats that
- Does it taste bad?
- Did it used to be solid?
- This poor guy
- OMG it has no flavor
- Are you sure this is edible?
- This is vile
Casey and Stephanie were the big winners of the White Stuff game- it was very difficult.
The next two games were done at the same time. Ring around the Willie and Pin the Hose on the Fireman. I kicked ass at the Pin the Hose on the Firefighter, the bra blindfold worked it's magic again. Ring around the Willie was more difficult than it should have been, Carla, Stephanie and Jennifer had to have a toss off cause they had a three-way tie.
The final game was a bachelorette staple, dirty pictionary/charades. I cannot discuss what happened during this game because the participant's identities need to be protected but all I can say is my cousin Casey kicked ass at this game. She is a bachelorette party champ.
It was a great night. I had so much fun and am so glad my closest girlfriends could be there. I've known Stephanie for almost 12 years we met in high school and have luckily been able to keep in touch this whole time. Carla was one of the first students I worked with 4 years ago when I started at SAC, we became quick friends and have had some amazing experiences together. My cousin Casey and I didn't start hanging out till a few years ago and I am so glad we did, through karaoke and crazy family stuff it's great to have someone to share that with. Jennifer is my sisters best friend from forever and after college Jenn and I lived in the same apartment complex for two years and became super close, she's one of my bridesmaids. Haley is of course my sister. I am so glad they could all be there and am so lucky they're my friends.
Now I must hide some of the presents and evidence from Bruce, some of this stuff must be saved for the honeymoon...

Wedding Registry Perks! Free Knife!
So many reasons to love Bed, Bath and Friggin' Beyond! If you register for lots of stuff you get free stuff too! When we were doing our registry they gave us a little booklet that said if your guests buy you this, then you can get this. What I failed to notice was that just by registering for certain products they'll send you free crap. We registered for lots of Calphalon pots and pans and the total must have exceeded $500 cause we got a free 5" Santoku knife! I love kitchen knives so this is great! Must remember to look at things more carefully- I wonder if our registry qualifies for even more cool stuff...
